June is Perennial Gardening Month!

Design gardens with varieties that offer bloom for every season, incorporate different heights, textures and colors for interest.  Our design team can help you plan and select the right plants for your area and interest, free of charge.

ROSES

  • Use Bayer’s All-In-One Rose & Flower Care for fertilizing, insect control and disease control.  One application protects for 6 weeks.

TREES & SHRUBS

  • Prune early-flowering shrubs, such as Azaleas and Rhododendrons that have finished flowering to encourage the development of young shoots that will bear flowers the following year.

GARDEN

  • Fertilize perennials with Espoma’s Plant-tone every 6 weeks, an organic slow-release plant food.
  • Deadhead perennials as the flowers fade and pinch back others lightly to encourage bushier growth and more flowers. Remove yellowed foliage from spring flowering bulbs.
  • Finish planting tender transplants such as pumpkins, tomatoes, begonias and impatiens.
  • Stake vegetables and perennials, or use grow through plant supports before the plants flop or fill in.
  • Side dress asparagus and rhubarb with aged manure or Espoma’s Garden Food.
  • Continue to apply Preen for weed prevention as directed if it has been 8 weeks since you last applied.
  • Watch for insects and diseases as the weather warms up.  Not sure what the issue is? Bring in a sample or pictures and we can help you diagnose and treat the problem.
  • Check for watering as dryer weather begins. Deep watering every 3 or 4 days is best to develop deep roots (as opposed to everyday shallow watering).
  • Accent your garden beds with unique garden art or benches!
